Job summary

Tilcon Connecticut Inc., a CRH company, is seeking an experienced Utility Maintenance Operator for our Wallingford Quarry. You will work in a team, report to the Quarry Manager, and adhere to MSHA safety requirements as part of daily operations.

This second-shift role requires afternoon/evening hours with overtime as needed, and offers wages and benefits through the Operating Engineers Union. Join a team dedicated to safety, quality, and integrity in every task.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Trade or mechanical education is preferred.
  • Maintenance/mechanical experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently work in a utility and maintenance capacity and report problems to the manager.
  • Perform service and maintenance on plant equipment, accessing platforms and landings as needed.
  • Operate small equipment and perform raking, shoveling, inspections, and repairs to plant equipment.
  • Follow MSHA/OSHA safety regulations and company policies.
  • Follow foreperson directives for daily tasks and project expectations.
  • Complete daily pre- and post-inspections with proper documentation.
  • Display professional conduct toward coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

Position Overview

Tilcon Connecticut has an opening for an experienced Utility Maintenance Operator in our Wallingford Quarry. As a Utility Maintenance Operator, the selected candidate will be required to work in a team environment with other co-workers and managers. Our core values are safety, quality, and integrity in everything we do. All Tilcon Connecticut employees are expected to partner with associates and management of Tilcon Connecticut, Inc. to coordinate, support, and actively promote our safety processes. The Utility Maintenance Operator will report directly to the Quarry Manager and will comply with mandatory MSHA safety requirements and other functions of the quarry team.

This is a second-shift position. Candidates must be available to work afternoon and evening hours and overtime as required.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions)
  • Safely and efficiently work in a utility and maintenance capacity and report any problems to the manager in a timely manner.
  • Perform service and maintenance on plant equipment as needed, using ladders to access platforms and landings.
  • Operate small equipment and perform raking, shoveling, inspections, and repairs to plant equipment.
  • Properly follow all company policies and MSHA/OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Follow the direction of the foreperson regarding daily tasks and expectations for each project or jobsite.
  • Perform daily pre- and post-inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Report to work at the designated start time and remain through the end of the shift.
  • Be able to work overtime when required.
  • Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures.
  • Work effectively in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience
Required
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Preferred
  • Trade or mechanical education.
  • Maintenance/mechanical experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
Work Requirements
  • Must be available to work second shift, including overtime, weekends, and additional hours as operational needs require.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Pass a pre-employment Fit-for-Work physical.
