Job summary

Pavlov Media is seeking an Underground Utility Locator to work full-time in Matteson, IL. The role involves pinpointing paths of fiber optic cables and underground utilities, using mapping tools and locating equipment, and ensuring accuracy for safe excavation projects.

Responsibilities include reading utility maps, marking locations, and maintaining detailed reports. The candidate should be able to work outdoors in all weather and participate in after-hours calls as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid State driver's license with acceptable MVR.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background checks.
• Random drug testing in compliance with laws.
• Experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook; ArcGIS and Irth Solutions are a plus.
• Actual field experience may be considered equivalent to formal education.

Responsibilities

• Utilize mapping tools and locating equipment to identify utilities.
• Read and interpret maps/prints to identify underground utilities.
• Indicate utility locations with paint/flags and communicate with excavation personnel.
• Operate locating equipment to mark underground facilities within accuracy limits.
• Work in all weather conditions and after hours.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies per rotation schedule.
• Document all locates and maintain records.
• Correct maps when needed.
• Maintain locate instruments.
• Investigate damages and document causes; may testify in court.

Utility Locator

Full-time Regular Matteson, IL, US

Salary Range: $20.00 To $25.00 Hourly

Our Underground Utility Locators are responsible, self-motivated individuals who enjoy the freedom of working outdoors (in all weather conditions). The right individual who is committed to safety, comfortable working on their own, pays close attention to detail, and takes pride in completing a job well done. Utility locators are responsible for pinpointing the paths of Fiber Optic cables, and other conduits that carry utilities underground. The locators' efforts protect underground utilities from damage during projects involving excavation. Primary Responsibilities

• Utilize the provided mapping tool and other location information, along with locating equipment
• Read and interpret utility maps / prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities
• Indicate utility locations through the utilization of paint, flags and communicates other relevant information to excavation personnel or other appropriate authorities
• Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits
• Perform work in all weather conditions, during normal and after hours
• Respond to after-hours emergency call-outs in accordance with the established rotation schedule
• Documents all locates performed and maintains accurate records thereof
• Corrects maps when they are found to be in error
• Responsible for care and maintenance of locate instruments
• Investigates all damages to underground cable and determines and documents to the extent possible the cause of the damage
• Objectively writes reports of damaged cables in detail to assist in collection of damage claims. May be required to testify in court concerning damages.
• During periods when locate activity is slow, this individual will assist in other job duties as needed

Experience Requirements and Positives

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Experience with: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook. Experience with ArcGIS and Irth Solutions is considered a plus.
• Actual field experience may be considered equivalent to and possibly more important than formal education.

Physical Requirements

The successful candidate will be able to perform the following with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Ability to lift minimum of 15 lbs
• Ability to drive and walk throughout a 8 hour shift

The salary range for this position is: $20-25 hourly

Actual base pay for this job will depend on the candidate's primary work location and other factors, such as relevant skills and experience.
