Job description

Lake Superior Consulting is growing and we are seeking Utility Locators to join our team! We are seeking both experienced locators and those with no experience, we will train!

Are you an outdoor enthusiast who thrives in challenging environments and enjoys independent fieldwork? If you're a physically capable, safety-conscious, and hardworking individual, consider an exciting career at Lake Superior Consulting (LSC)! We are currently seeking multiple positions for Line Locating Technicians for our Project Teams in these locations: West, South Metro and surrounding areas

This individual will be responsible for accurately locating and marking cables, pipes, and other conduits that carry utilities underground. The locators’ efforts protect underground utilities from damage during projects that involve excavation.

These are daytime, full-time positions where overtime is required. We work some weekends as needed and also require you to be physically ready for extended hours in all weather conditions.

LSC is a trusted name recognized for its strong commitment to quality and safety. We are looking for individuals who take pride in their physical endurance and ability to work in tough conditions. If you’re a problem solver and driven to succeed in a fast-paced, hands‑on role, and ready to meet the physical demands of the job, LSC is the place for you!

We offer training (no prior locating experience necessary!) and opportunities for advancement.

Your Responsibilities as a Project Team Locator
  • Respond to locate requests within legal time limit – this includes routine and project locates as well as supporting unlocatable requests as needed
  • Mark found utilities using proper coloring system (APWA marking standards)
  • Read and interpret full plan sets to identify the size and type of underground utility. Compare as-builts, GIS, and historical records to identify conflicts
  • Coordinate with multiple crews, subcontractors and inspectors to locate in phases so work can be continuously in motion
  • Able to execute complex signal work, troubleshooting, and differentiating between parallel utilities
  • Accurate documentation of utility conflicts and anomalies
  • Complete required paperwork and logs for locates and line crossings/excavations
  • Work safely by adhering to LSC and client guidelines and procedures
  • Communicate work scopes and responsibilities amongst project specific field-based teams
  • Complete and maintain operator qualifications (OQs)
  • Operate and use electronic locating equipment
  • Gather data, prepare records and report in a timely manner
  • Perform daily safety meetings and submit daily report documentations
  • Generate and gather equipment for kickoffs of projects
  • Ensure your work is utilized with respect to company goals
  • Document and report any incidents, near misses, and opportunities for improvement
  • Work in compliance with all technical procedures and guidelines
  • Be available for on-call rotation
What we need from you:
  • Due to our driver policy, must be 21 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma required

  • Physical stamina to walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. in challenging environments
  • Available to work overtime and weekends as needed, handling the physical demands of extended hours.
  • Availability to participate in on-call rotation
  • Prior utility locating experience is a plus, but we are willing to train
  • Valid driver’s license is required and a safe driving record
  • Capability to operate a company vehicle and use general hand/power tools
