Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting in Minnesota is seeking a Utility Locate Lead to join our growing team. In this leadership role you will supervise field technicians, perform underground locate work, and ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency across projects.

This position blends hands-on field duties with mentoring, training new staff, and coordinating daily workloads with the Utility Supervisor. A strong safety mindset, clear communication, and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• 2–3 years of utility locating experience (required).
• Prior leadership or mentoring experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of utility locating methods, equipment, and standards.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety and high-quality service.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Willingness to travel and participate in on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

• Communicate clearly with supervisors, clients, and coworkers to ensure efficient operations.
• Participate in on-call rotations and ensure equipment readiness for field projects.

Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is seeking a Utility Locate Lead to join our growing team!

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced locator to step into a leadership role supporting the day-to-day operations of our utility locating and leak detection services. As a Utility Locate Lead, you’ll work hands-on in the field while mentoring and supporting technicians to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency across all projects.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment and traverse rugged terrain.
• Frequent standing and walking; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation).
• Ability to travel to offsite locations for extended periods as needed.
• Willingness to work extended hours when project schedules require.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $25-$29/hr.
