The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is seeking a Utility Intern to provide support on engineering projects. This role allows you to gain real-world experience while applying standard engineering techniques under supervision.

The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in an engineering program and able to commit to approximately 20 hours per week on-site in Long Beach, California. This is a temporary part-time position offering significant exposure to engineering practices.

About the Role

We are looking for a Utility Intern to support our engineering projects by providing real‑world experience, applying standard engineering techniques, and participating in design.

Responsibilities

• Gain real‑world experience on exciting projects
• Connect with recent college graduates and company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
• Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
• Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
• Participate in the design process, develop alternative solutions, and create presentation graphics used to communicate concepts to clients or for agency approval
• Perform other duties as needed

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will commit to working approximately 20 hours per week on‑site under the mentorship of a licensed engineer. This position does not offer remote work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer 3 years completed toward a degree with a 3.0+ GPA
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to the field of study/industry

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
• Possess strong problem‑solving and communication skills
• Basic Microsoft Office skills
