Position Overview: Safely drives, operates, and maintains assigned excavation equipment.

Key Accountabilities
  • Drive or be responsible for loading equipment for transport to and from the job site.
  • Operate equipment safely for street openings, trenches, and backfilling.
  • Clean, grease, inspect, maintain, and perform minor repairs on equipment and accessories.
  • Maintain vehicle compliance, including DOT DVIR inspections.
  • Perform Utility Person duties when not operating equipment, as described in the Utility Person job description.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by a Supervisor.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Basic geographical knowledge of service area and understanding of company policies, safety practices, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of safety policies for operating equipment near underground utilities.
  • Ability to operate company equipment and vehicles.
  • Understanding of safe practices for underground utility work and worksite safety.
  • Knowledge of the One-Call system and utility markings.
  • Skills outlined in the Utility job description.
Experience/Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Complete required equipment operation training.
  • Obtain and pass the Class E Water Distribution License exam within 24 months of hire and apply within 6 months of meeting experience requirements.
  • Adaptability to varying topography and weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 100 lbs.
Other
  • Position may require off-hours call-out and overtime.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of residence required.
  • Complete and maintain driver qualification forms.
  • Obtain and maintain a DOT medical card.
