Job description

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker is actively seeking a Utility Engineer or Specialist for our Newark, NJ and/or Hamilton, NJ office. Candidate will have strong background in utility engineering, regulatory compliance and conflict resolution. They will closely collaborate with utility companies, design teams, and project stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of utility infrastructure with roadway and transportation projects

RESPONSILITIES

The successful candidate will:

  • Review, analyze, and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and utility relocation designs to ensure compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards Review and interpret engineering plans and utility relocation designs for compliance.
  • Be familiar with the NJ State Utility Accommodation Policy NJAC 16:25.
  • Coordinate and review engineering design and construction cost estimates provided by utility owners.
  • Develop and execute utility relocation and adjustment plans.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts between utility infrastructure and project elements.
  • Manage project documentation, including reports, schedules, and correspondence.
  • Ensure adherence to NJDOT, NJTA, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Execute NJDOT Utility Engineering processes or similar processes for other agencies on highway infrastructure projects,
  • Provide technical guidance on utility design, permitting, and relocation processes.
  • Facilitate meetings with utility providers, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with monitoring project progress, budgets, and schedules.
  • Perform collection, review and cataloging of utility as-built records.
  • Coordinate subsurface utility engineering (SUE) investigations.
  • Prepare utility construction plans and specifications for bid documents.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff and provide technical guidance.
  • Maintain and adhere to appropriate QA/QC procedures and best practices.
  • Possess strong verbal, written, and presentation skills; demonstrated ability to lead and manage the design and detailing of complex transportation projects; goal-oriented, quality-focused, and successful in creating and fostering a team environment.
  • Collaborate with multiple transportation project teams to successfully deliver projects.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 6+ years of related experience.
  • BSCE in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college.
  • Professional engineering license in NJ, or ability to obtain within 6 months (preferred).
  • Experience with NJDOT and NJTA roadway design projects, including familiarity with their standards and project delivery protocol (preferred).
  • Proficient with MicroStation and AutoCAD software programs.
  • Experience with ORD Utility 3-D Modeling (preferred)

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $87,000 to $118,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
