Job summary

Duke University is seeking a Utility Distribution Mechanic II to help ensure safe, reliable operation of campus utility systems. You will perform maintenance on steam, hot water, chilled water, and related distribution networks, following established safety protocols and working with a team of facilities professionals.

You will also enter maintenance data in CMMS, assist in emergency repairs, and support other mechanics with piping, valves, and system components.

Qualifications

  • High school education with skilled crafts coursework or equivalent
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license
  • Basic knowledge of workplace safety and PPE use
  • Ability to use hand tools and pipe-related equipment

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preventative maintenance on utility distribution systems as scheduled and during emergencies
  • Perform maintenance tasks on piping, valves, and related components as directed by a higher-level mechanic or supervisor
  • Enter work orders, inventory, assets, and maintenance data into CMMS, following lockout/tagout procedures and safety rules
  • Use specialized testing devices and hand/power tools relevant to the trade; maintain clean work areas and deliver parts as needed
  • Support other mechanics and perform calculations and conversions as required
