Job summary

West Chicago Elementary School District 33 is seeking a dedicated custodian to help maintain a safe, clean school environment at Leman Middle School in West Chicago, IL. The role emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and collaboration with school staff.

The candidate should have custodial experience and be able to operate basic building systems. English/Spanish fluency is preferred, and lifting up to 40 pounds is expected as part of daily duties.

Qualifications

• Previous custodial or related experience.
• English/Spanish fluency preferred.
• Ability to interact positively with young children, parents, and staff.
• Willingness to adapt to interruptions.
• Ability to operate and maintain heating, plumbing, and ventilation systems.
• General knowledge of cleaning equipment and techniques.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for the appearance and function of assigned building and grounds.
• Completes cleaning schedule for the areas assigned within the frequency requirements provided, including, but not limited to, hallways, lounges, classrooms, and restrooms
• Inspects and locks building before leaving for the day.
• Assists in the unloading and delivery of supplies and equipment being delivered.
• Transports trash and waste to dumpster site and maintains this disposal area.
• Regulates building temperatures, as specified.
• Attends departmental and training meetings.
• Works cooperatively with the Head Custodian and Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
