Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson in Thomaston, GA seeks a Utility Coordinator to join our Southeast Utilities Team. You will coordinate utility relocations during planning and design for roadway and bridge projects, interacting with utility owners and agencies, under moderate supervision.

The role requires strong communication, familiarity with design software, and a valid driver's license; travel is expected. Immigration sponsorship is not available except TN visa eligibility.

Qualifications

• Strong oral and written communication and technical writing skills.
• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Analyze survey information, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, Subsurface Utility Engineering plans, or other topographical data.
• Organize and review design information from multiple utility sources for accuracy; determine if design meets or exceeds project specifications.
• Conduct meetings as necessary to successfully reach schedule milestones.
• Uses computer assisted engineering and design software to prepare Utility by Others plans and associative documents.
• Maintain favorable relationships with utility companies and DOTs, counties and municipalities agencies.

Utility Coordinator

Position Summary

JMT is seeking a Utility Coordinator to join us in our Thomaston, Georgia office as part of the JMT Southeast Region Utilities Team. The SE region includes Georgia, Tennessee, & Kentucky. The successful candidate will be responsible, under moderate supervision, to perform utility coordination duties including contacting and directing utility owners' relocation efforts as part of the planning and design phases of proposed roadway and bridge improvement projects.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Analyze survey information, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, Subsurface Utility Engineering plans, or other topographical data such as hydraulics design and utility relocation(s) design plans
• Organize and review design information from multiple utility sources for accuracy; determine if design meets or exceeds project specifications
• Conduct meetings as necessary to successfully reach schedule milestones
• Uses computer assisted engineering and design software to prepare Utility by Others plans and associative documents
• Maintain favorable relationships with utility companies and DOTs, counties and municipalities agencies

Required Skills

Required Experience

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, Open Roads and other design software
• High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience), advanced education is preferred
• 3-5 years related experience in utility coordination and/or design

Preferred Experience

• Utility coordination and construction inspection or related experience in Georgia, Tennessee or Kentucky specifically with GDOT, TDOT, and KYTC
• Utility coordination relative to Design-Build (DB) and Public Private Partnership (P3)
• 5+ years of related experience is preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field approximately 30% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Work is performed within a general office environment approximately 60% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Out-of-town travel is expected approximately 10% of the time and is dependent upon the company's workload.
