Nature of Work:This is skilled labor work involving specialized skills, knowledge, and tools for maintaining, cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and replacing the City’s sanitary and sanitary combined sewer collection systems infrastructure to protect the environment and public from sewer spills. Employees in this classification may act as a lead worker and be required to operate construction equipment. Employees must know and be able to apply the industrial safety standards for this work. Work is normally performed with supervision.
Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.
Two (2) years of construction, sewer construction, sewer cleaning related experience, or a combination of any, with a minimum of one (1) year sewer construction experience. High school graduation or its equivalent is preferred.
Special Qualifications: Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial driver's license with N endorsement and no air brake restrictions at the time of appointment or a Class A Commercial driver’s license with N endorsement and O restriction by the end of the probationary period.

Pay Range: $22.91 with step increases to $31.59 Hourly

Examination Information:
The multiple-choice/written examination will be on September 3, 2026, at 9:00am at the City of Omaha - Sewer Maintenance Office, 6880 Q Street, Omaha Ne. 68117. An invitation via email to the exam will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to the test for the position. The test is designed to assess knowledge of the job, skills, and abilities of this position. The passing score on the examination is 50%. This will be weighted 100% in the final score.
Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran’s preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by August 30, 2026.
