Job Summary

The Superintendent, Utilities oversees and directs daily operations, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment and electrical, water, and gas distribution systems. Receives and processes quotes for work and material to be performed.

Job Specific Responsibilities

Daily assignments may include but are not limited to :

  • Plans, schedules, coordinates, and directs operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment and electrical, water, and gas distribution systems.
  • Plans and schedules long-range maintenance programs; determines frequency, scope, and type of equipment to be included; Determines need for and schedules utilities shutdowns for major repairs and maintenance work with minimal interruption to normal activities of the hospital.
  • Coordinates with private contractors engaged in installation of renovation of mechanical, refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heating equipment as required.
  • Trains workers in methods, procedures, and use of equipment, and work aids, such as drawings, hand tools, and test equipment; Ensures quality of work and client satisfaction performed by crew
  • Monitors the utility alarms on campus and analyzes alarm conditions to determine course of action; Assist with troubleshooting equipment failures
  • Available to support shift coverage, after hours or extended projects as needed and assists in major maintenance repairs, trains, and mentor new personnel in area of expertise as required.
  • All other assigned duties related to Facilities Management
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 7 years of experience in operation and maintenance of large (25,000 cfm) air-handling equipment, steam reducing stations, pumps, steam boilers, refrigeration equipment, and water, gas, and electrical systems.
  • 2 years of work experience as a supervisor or higher-level experience. Required

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

This position will interact with members of Facilities team, leadership staff, and outside contractors and vendors

Physical Capabilities

Frequently exerts a medium amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull and move patients or objects. Extended periods of time looking at a computer screen. Frequently work involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling. Extended periods of time sitting may also required. Occasionally work involves running, climbing stairs, climbing ladders and crawling.

Environmental / Working Conditions

The position is mostly subject to inside working conditions, however, may be required to work outdoors in inclement weather occasionally. Hours may be long and irregular. Subject to constant call backs.
