The County of Volusia is seeking an experienced Utilities Service Technician for the Water Resources and Utilities Division. This position involves working throughout Volusia County and is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing water and sewer mains, manholes, lift stations, and water meters used in water/wastewater utility systems. Candidates should have experience operating utility construction equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, or excavators. Basic computer skills are a plus.
Note: May be required to work weekends, holidays, on-call rotations, and during storm events or other emergencies.

All Assignments
- Performs accurate record keeping via the Lucity work order system.
- Operates small equipment and power tools such as pumps, generators, saws, drills, etc.
- Maintains county-issued electronics including cell phones and laptops.
- Maintains, cleans, refuels, and organizes vehicles; stocks vehicle with needed parts and equipment.
- May be assigned to other county locations based on operational needs.
- Attends work regularly and consistently.
- Adheres to all relevant ordinances and regulations.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Collections and Distribution
- Participates in 24-hour emergency on-call response for Utilities Sewer Collection & Distribution.
- Installs and repairs underground piping and structures.
- Works on water meters, reclaim meters, and radio read equipment.
- Responds to low water flow complaints, troubleshoots, and repairs leaks.
Maintenance
- Participates in 24-hour emergency on-call response for Utilities Maintenance & Lift Stations.
- Performs electrical repairs and renovations.
- Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs pumps, motors, and electrical controls.
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance.
- Uses computers to monitor and diagnose lift station issues and SCADA equipment.
All Utilities Service Technicians must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Florida driver's license, and obtain a Class B CDL within one year of employment. All certifications must be current.
Trades Worker/Technician I - Trainee - $17.77: Performs routine tasks using hand tools and small equipment. Requires one year of experience in electrical, mechanical, or plumbing repair. Must obtain Water Distribution III License or Sewer Collection Certification within 18 months.
Promotion: Upon certification, promoted to Technician II with increased pay.
Note: Trainees must sign a trainee agreement.
Trades Worker/Technician II - $18.77 - $33.43: Performs semi-skilled work with minimal supervision, including installing and repairing water and sewer systems. Requires Water Distribution III License or Sewer Collection Certification and two years of relevant experience.
Senior Trades Worker/Technician III - $21.45 - $38.43: Performs skilled journeyman-level work with little or no supervision. Requires Water Distribution II License or Sewer Collection Certification and three years of experience.

- Ability to interact effectively with others and relocate as needed.
ADA Requirements:
Physical Demands: Ability to perform medium to heavy work, including lifting up to 25 pounds, and physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, and climbing.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and understand work orders, safety instructions, maps, blueprints, and perform shop math.
Environmental Demands: Work may be indoors or outdoors, with exposure to weather, chemicals, dust, confined spaces, and poor ventilation.
