Position: Pipe Layer - PL0824

Sanders Brothers Construction is seeking a Pipe Layer to support water, sewer, and storm drain projects throughout the Charleston, SC area.

Responsibilities

1. Support utilities crews during underground pipeline installation for water, sewer, and drainage systems.
2. Follow instructions from the utility foreman and equipment operators.
3. Work in confined spaces (after training) at various depths.
4. Assist with trench box installation and utility bricklaying as needed.
5. Help place ductile, concrete, and steel pipes.
6. Participate in utility pipe repairs.
7. Work in diverse weather conditions and environments, including dusty, wet, and noisy settings.
8. Maintain cleanliness and safety of company vehicle, tools, and equipment; report safety concerns.
9. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
10. Perform additional duties as assigned.
11. Ensure pipes are clean and meet quality standards before installation.
12. Verify the final quality of bedding and grading in trenches.

Qualifications

1. 1-3 years of experience in utility installation.
2. High school diploma or GED preferred.
3. Ability to identify poor-quality products prior to installation.
4. Knowledge of pipe backfill and bedding standards.
5. Ability to ensure proper pipe bellying, seating, lubrication, and alignment.
6. Ability to read grades accurately.
7. Ability to identify and communicate subgrade issues.
8. Proficiency in reading laser targets and setting grade rods.
9. Understanding of grading and ability to level trench bottoms appropriately.
10. Basic math skills for measuring pipe make-up.
11. Possibility of obtaining DOT medical certification based on duties.
12. Negative drug test required prior to hire and throughout employment.
13. Background checks required.
14. Physical ability to stand, sit, kneel, squat, push, pull, and climb for up to 10 hours.
15. Ability to tolerate weather conditions such as rain and extreme temperatures.
16. Regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
17. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and nights as needed.
18. Pass safety training requirements.
