Responsible for the inspection, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, installation and repair of equipment in the areas of water and wastewater pump stations, water and wastewater treatment plants, water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Water Systems or Wastewater Systems Supervisor as assigned by the Utilities Director.
- Responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in inspection, maintenance and repairing equipment associated with the County’s Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Systems to include water storage and pumping stations and lift stations.
- Assists in inspection and performs daily maintenance; assists in the preparation of routine reports and maintaining daily records and logs.
- Follows established preventive maintenance procedures regarding all phases of collection and distribution systems.
- Assists in the operation and maintenance of light maintenance service equipment including maintenance service truck, backhoes, trailers, loaders, wrenches, pump alignment tools, and a wide variety of hand tools.
- Uses sound judgment to recognize and report unusual conditions.
- Fills out work orders and submits requisitions for supplies.
- Assists in monitoring records, dials, and charts to determine system conditions; performs necessary adjustments in response to monitoring results.
- Assists in the monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical equipment in and around Distribution, Treatment and Collection Systems.
- Assists in providing valve and equipment adjustments.
- Participates in emergency response programs.
- Participates in scheduled on-call standby and after hour programs as assigned.
- Locates or assists in the location of the County’s water and wastewater infrastructure in compliance with the “Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety Act” as assigned.
- Provides customer service in a timely and respectful manner.
- Maintains cleanliness of work area and wears required work attire.
- Performs building and ground maintenance as assigned.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment and pumping equipment, water distribution and/or wastewater collection principles and practices of maintenance, repair or construction of the same.
- Knowledge of safety and health precautions associated with confined space operations as well as Trench Safety and Excavations.
- Ability to repair mechanical and chemical equipment as well as electric and motor driven machinery or learn.
- Knowledge of safety and health precautions for handling Hazardous Chemicals and Fluids.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand, follow and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, subordinates, County officials, and the general public.
- Ability to work emergency situations as required.

- Knowledge of the use of electrical tools and testing equipment.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must currently possess or be willing to obtain a minimum of a State of Florida Water Distribution Level “III” license within one (1) calendar year of County employment as issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection or an advanced FDEP approved license.
