Job summary

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience managing a utility pipeline crew and enforcing safe digging practices.
  • Ability to read and implement drawings for utilities installation and repair.
  • Basic math skills required for grade calculations and measurement.
  • Ability to establish bench marks and grades accurately on job sites.
  • Strong communication skills to lead craftspeople and coordinate with inspections and customers.
  • Knowledge of proper equipment use for heavy construction and utilities work.
  • May require DOT medical certification depending on duties.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and maintain disclosure of safety standards.
  • Background checks in line with SBCC policy.
  • Physical ability to stand, crawl and kneel for extended periods; tolerate varied weather.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as loader and excavator and perform basic PM.
  • Maintain safety, time sheets, and daily reporting per company procedures.

Utilities Foreman - UF0826

Sanders Brothers Construction Company is currently looking to hire a foreman in our Utilities Department. The Utilities Foreman will be responsible for managing day-to-day utility installation and repair operations including managing personnel and projects.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Managing the day-to-day water, sewer, and storm drain utility pipeline operations.
  • Will direct a crew as a working foreman and perform skilled work in the installation and repair of water and sewer facilities.
  • Responsible for supervising utilities brick mason crew when on job site.
  • Establish grades off of a benchmark.
  • Supervise the installation of underground utilities including water, sewer and storm drain.
  • Supervision is exercised over a crew of skilled and unskilled workers or two or more small crews assigned to individual projects.
  • Be responsible industry and company standards for safe digging practices, trench box usage and installation.
  • Work is performed under general direction of an administrative superior and is subject to periodic review by superiors for results obtained, changes in work methods, and adherence to departmental policies.
  • Communicate with inspectors, customers and SBCC employees in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Safely operating heavy equipment-Loader and track hoe/excavator.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Working within confined spaces (after required training) at varying depths.
  • Excavate in a trench box and ensure proper trench grade.
  • Assisting with the installation of trench boxes.
  • Must identify and communicate poor trench conditions to ensure safety.
  • Assisting utilities brick mason as needed
  • Assist with the placement of ductile, concrete and steel piping.
  • Assist during utility pipe repairs.
  • Following plans to set pipeline and necessary depth and grade.
  • Working within confined spaces (after required training) at varying depths.
  • Assisting with the installation of trench boxes.
  • Use of track hoe to for the placement of ductile, concrete and steel piping.
  • Work in varying weather conditions and work environments including dusty, wet, loud noises, etc.
  • Keep company vehicle, tools, job site and equipment clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns.
  • Comply with all SBCC policies, procedures and safety requirements.
  • Maintain employee time sheets and daily reporting meeting company requirements by utilizing current company technology.
  • Meet or exceed production goals.
  • Perform any other general duties as specified.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Five years experience managing a utility pipeline crew, familiar with safe digging practices, trench box usage and installation
  • Knowledge of and experience reading, understanding, and implementing drawings.
  • Basic mathematical skills are required.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to properly establish bench marks and grades.
  • Must have communication skills to lead craftspeople in labor, equipment operation and other duties required by the job.
  • Thorough knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy construction work.
  • Based on duties, may be required to obtain DOT medical certification.
  • Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment.
  • Must meet SBCC's employment standards with regards to background checks.
  • Must have the ability to stand, crawl and kneel for long periods of time
  • Work environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc.
  • Valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record by complying with standards established by SBCC policy.
