Job summary

System One is seeking a Utilities Engineer in Houston, TX to monitor and optimize Gulf Coast plant utility systems, guiding investments and improving efficiency across sites. The role requires a chemical engineering background and experience with process-simulation tools to support water treatment, boilers, and wastewater management.

You will review contractor work, estimate project costs, and contribute to long-term utility contracts and expansion plans with the leadership team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience (10+ years preferred).
• Strong knowledge of utility design, construction, and contract administration procedures.
• Proficiency with process-simulation software (Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, Pro/II, or ChemCAD).
• Knowledge of process-control and safety instrumented system (SIS) design, industrial flow- and level-measurement technologies, and applicable standards and codes (API, ASME, NFPA, OSHA).
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Visio, Bluebeam, SharePoint, Power BI, and collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

• Monitor utility-system conditions, ensure optimal and efficient performance, and guide investment priorities for plant utilities across Gulf Coast sites.
• Identify and correct utility inefficiencies, develop and maintain utility balances, support capital projects, and provide troubleshooting guidance.
• Evaluate water-treatment processes, steam boilers, condensate systems, and wastewater management to support operations and growth.
• Review work of contracted engineering personnel involved in utility and infrastructure design, prepare project cost estimates, and participate in long-term utility contract reviews.
• Participate on the organizational leadership team; research, recommend, and prepare policies, plans, and future-expansion proposals.
