Job summary

The City of Salina is seeking a Utilities Controls Technician to install and maintain field instrumentation and programmable logic controllers. This full-time position requires hands-on experience and a valid Kansas driver's license. Qualifications

UTILITIES CONTROLS TECHNICIAN

Utilities Department

Duties:
·Install, maintain, upgrade & repair field instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), actuators & positioners, & network communication devices.
·Diagnose, troubleshoot, & repair points of failure in field instrumentation, PLC’s & human machine interface (HMI) systems.
·Train & assist users with software applications & upgrades.
·Coordinate installation of electronic systems, including power suppliers, circuit protection, isolation relays, uninterruptible power supplies, internal wiring, terminal block, I/O modules, central processing units, local display, media conversion & network communications.
·Maintain PLC coding to include process control, monitoring, runtime data & alarming.
·Install & maintain alarm systems.
·Maintain historical data archiving & trending software & its associated hardware.
·Read & interpret technical documents & manuals.
·Lead staff, outside contractors & vendors in performing work procedures as assigned.
·Perform overtime as needed & other duties as assigned.

Seasonal Duties at Aquatic Facility:
·Treat water with the proper chemicals to maintain safe & healthy water.
·Test water for chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, hardness, total dissolved solids & cyanuric.
·Maintain filter system, inspect filter media, calculate proper flow rate through filters, inspect for leaks, log appropriate data & maintain.
·Check operation & coordinate repair/replacement of safety.
·Check operation & coordinate repair/replacement of pool.

Education:
·High school diploma or G.E.D.
·Must possess or obtain a National Recreation & Parks Association Aquatic Facility Operator certification within one (1) year from start date of employment.

Experience:
·Two (2) years of experience in the installation, configuration, & support of field instrumentation hardware, process automation system, & use of PLC & HMI programming applications or electrician apprenticeship.

Requirements:
·Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
·Must live within 40 minutes response time.

Work Type:
·Medium, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Equipment:
·Hand & power tools, hand & low voltage electrical test equipment, chemical test equipment, welders, computers, tablets, vehicles & telephones.

Hours:
·Monday – Friday.
·8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
·Responds to after-hours calls.

Starting Pay DOQ EOE:
·$25.19-26.45/hr.
·$52,382-55,016/yr.
·Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6:00 p.m. & before 6:00 a.m.

Paid Time Off:
·48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
·96 hours of sick leave during first year.
