Job summary

Twin Rivers Technologies is seeking a Third Engineer in Quincy, MA to operate high pressure steam boilers, cogeneration and related systems in the Utilities Department.

You will monitor equipment, maintain logs, ensure regulatory compliance, and perform safety audits while supporting safety and cost objectives. A MA Third Class Engineer license and 3+ years of boiler experience are required, with a Grade 3M wastewater license to be obtained within 12 months.

Qualifications

  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts Third Class Engineers License REQUIRED.
  • Must obtain Grade 3M or higher Municipal Wastewater License within 12 months of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor and inspect boilers, generators, air compressors and related equipment to ensure reliable, safe operation.
  • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance and safety activities for regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state and federal air and water quality regulations and safety rules.
  • Control fuel flow and boiler water chemistry to maintain proper operating conditions.
  • Test water quality and take corrective action to maintain proper chemical conditions.
  • Read gauges/meters to ensure boilers run within normal parameters and troubleshoot issues.
  • Analyze problems and take corrective action for continuous operation of equipment.
  • Isolate equipment for safe inspection and repair as needed.
  • Support safety, appearance, compliance, quality and cost objectives.

Salary Range: $28.00 To $42.00 Hourly

Position Mission

The primary function of the Third Engineer is to operate all equipment and support systems related to high pressure steam boilers, electric power generation (cogeneration), process cooling, compressed air, wastewater treatment and other systems as assigned in the Utilities Department.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Operate, monitor and inspect high pressure steam boilers, electric generators, air compressors, process cooling water, water treatment systems and associated auxiliary equipment including pumps, valves, transmitters, gauges, alarms, and safety devices to detect malfunctions and to ensure that equipment is operating reliably, efficiently and safely
  • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument readings, and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance in order to demonstrate regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Maintain continuous compliance with local, state and federal regulations as they relate to air quality, water quality and safety
  • Maintain required amounts of water in boilers, adjust supplies of combustion air, and to control the flow of fuel into burners
  • Test water quality and take necessary corrective action to maintain proper chemical conditions for steam generation, process cooling and wastewater systems
  • Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts registering various aspects of boiler operation to ensure that boilers are operating within normal parameters.
  • Analyze problems and take appropriate action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems
  • Adjust controls and/or valves on equipment to regulate and set operations of systems
  • Isolate equipment mechanically and electrically to allow for safe inspection and repair work (Lock Out Tag Out)
  • Keep the Utilities Chief Engineer informed of operating conditions
  • Support company fundamentals of Safety, Appearance, Compliance, Quality and Cost
  • Ensure that company and recognized industrial safe practices are followed at all times
  • Complete employee safety and equipment audits as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required
Formal Education / Certification Requirements – Essential Functions
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts Third Class Engineers License REQUIRED
  • 3+ years of experience working with high pressure boilers and related equipment
  • Must obtain Grade 3M or higher Municipal Wastewater License within 12 months of start date
Job-Related Experience/ Skills/ Competencies
  • Requires extensive field work walking throughout the facility
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
  • Will need to climb heights including boilers, cooling towers and storage tanks
  • Dexterity working with tools and machinery
  • Lift, push, pull heavy objects and equipment
  • Works with computers, test equipment and other technical devices
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
  • GMP and food grade knowledge preferred.

Travel Requirements

Infrequently. Maybe required for training or customer needs.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment and Conditions
  • Tasks may at times be performed with exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Require the usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and may take place in confined spaces.
  • Duties involve frequent walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying objects up to 65lbs.
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders to access mission critical operating equipment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Tasks may take place in both extreme cold and extreme hot work environments. Periodic potential exposures to hazardous chemicals/conditions exist in this position and training is mandatory. The work schedule may periodically rotate and includes duties on holidays and weekends. Employees reporting to this position serve in an on-call 24 hour capacity and if necessary this manager must be available to respond to operational issues across a multi-shift organization. Uniforms are provided and as well as footwear allowance.


12 hour shifts either 6 am - 6 pm or 6 pm - 6 am. Candidates need to be able to work day or night shift. Two week rotation.
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday (48 hours)
Week 2: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday (36 hours)
