Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Sort mail in delivery sequence for the assigned route.
  2. Receive and sign for accountable mail.
  3. Load mail in vehicle.
  4. Deliver mail to customers along a prescribed route and on a regular schedule by vehicle; collect monies and receipts for accountable mail; pick up mail from customers' roadside boxes.
  5. Sell stamps, stamped paper, and money orders; accept C.O.D., registered, certified, and insured mail and parcel post; provide routine postal information and forms to customers.
  6. Return undeliverable mail, submit monies and receipts to the post office.
  7. Prepare mail for forwarding and maintain change of address records.
  8. Prepare a daily trip report and maintain a customer list.
  9. Conduct special surveys when required.
  10. Maintain an inventory of stamps and stamped paper to serve customers.
  11. Ensure mail security at all times.

Note: Rural Carrier Associates are non-career employees providing services including mail delivery, collection, and sales of postal supplies. Candidates may need a suitable vehicle and should live within easy commuting distance. The job involves physical activity, outdoor work in all weather conditions, and lifting mail and parcels up to 70 pounds. Work is typically available on Saturdays and as needed to cover absences.
