USMLE Step 1: Medical Academic Advisor & Live Online Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Kaplan Medical is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to fill a virtual role that includes both Medical Academic Advisor and Medical Teaching Assistant (off camera for live online classes) responsibilities. This dynamic position will involve advising students preparing for the USMLE Step 1 and COMLEX Level 1 while also assisting with the delivery of live online courses. The ideal candidate will provide students with the guidance they need to plan and execute an efficient study strategy, while also contributing to a high-quality classroom experience in a virtual setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Academic Advisor:

  • Assess individual student needs, strengths, and weaknesses based on Diagnostic exam performance.
  • Create personalized study plans and assist students in organizing their study schedules to balance academic and personal responsibilities.
  • Offer strategies for setting realistic goals and staying on track throughout their preparation.
  • Recommend efficient study methods, including the use of question banks, textbooks, and online resources.
  • Assist students in interpreting practice test results and determining when they are exam-ready.
  • Offer strategies to maintain motivation and prevent burnout during long periods of exam preparation.
  • Guide students through the process of ECFMG certification, USMLE exam registration, and OET application.

Medical Teaching Assistant (off camera for live online classes):

  • Use Zoom to attend and manage live online classrooms, ensuring smooth delivery and a productive environment for students.
  • Respond to content-related questions from students in a timely and professional manner, providing live summaries and recaps during each session.
  • Assist instructors with classroom setup and connectivity, troubleshooting issues with help from the digital media team.
  • Complete shift reports to document the classroom experience and ensure adherence to live online procedures and quality standards.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to students and instructors, maintaining a positive and effective learning environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the seamless execution of online courses.

Qualifications:

  • Passing score on USMLE Step 1
    • Test scores prior to 2022 must be 196+
  • Strong preference for weekday morning availability.
  • Strong preference for candidates with a medical degree (MD/DO).
  • Experience mentoring or advising students in a medical or academic setting.
  • Familiarity with ECFMG certification and OET requirements.
  • Technology proficiency: Comfortable with online learning platforms, video conferencing, and digital resources.
  • Experience working with international medical graduates (preferred).
  • Knowledge of current trends in medical education (preferred).
