Job description

Overview

Atlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.

You’ll join a collaborative team of curious, creative, and supportive researchers who partner closely with product management, design, engineering, and data science to shape Atlassian’s products and platforms. Our team shares knowledge freely and celebrates experimentation, helping each other grow while keeping customers at the center of everything we do. As part of the team, you’ll have opportunities to stretch your skills, contribute to meaningful projects, and play your part in unleashing the potential of every team.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Plan and execute research: Independently scope, design, and run research studies—from planning and fieldwork to analysis, synthesis, and storytelling—with guidance as needed.
  • Apply mixed methods: Use approaches such as surveys, interviews, usability testing, and ethnographic observation to uncover user needs, behaviors, and pain points.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with product managers, designers, engineers, product marketers, and data scientists to ensure research is relevant and actionable.
  • Communicate insights: Share findings in clear, creative, and compelling ways—using storytelling and visualization—to help teams understand customer needs and make better product decisions.
  • Contribute to craft: Share best practices, help improve research methods and processes, and stay informed on trends in user research, AI, and product development.
  • Support the team: Participate in onboarding and mentoring of new hires; share improvements that create positive impact on the team and Atlassian broadly.

Qualifications

Your background

  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience designing and conducting user research (qualitative and/or quantitative), ideally in a software or technology environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Psychology, Human–Computer Interaction, Social Sciences, Statistics, or related discipline); postgraduate study a plus.
  • Proficiency blending foundational qual (interviews, usability) with quant (surveys, simple experiments) to provide balanced insights using tools such as Qualtrics, UserZoom, Dovetail, Tableau.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to convey insights through storytelling and visualization.
  • Collaborative mindset, curiosity, openness to feedback.
  • Interest in AI‑powered products; eagerness to grow expertise.

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
