Job summary

Google UX Engineering internship seeks a PhD candidate in Computer Science, HCI, Design, or related field to craft front-end experiences. You’ll collaborate with UX designers and engineers to implement next‑gen interfaces using modern frontend tech, and prototype high‑fidelity UI concepts for a global product set.

Applicants should have JS/HTML/CSS experience and a strong UI design sense, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, international environment.

• Manage time effectively and collaborate well in cross-functional teams.
• Design, architect, and prototype high-fidelity interfaces, including multimodal AI or adaptive UIs.

This internship is intended for students who are currently pursuing a PhD degree program in Computer Science, HCI, Design or related technical field.

This role may also be located in our Playa Vista, CA campus.

Minimum qualifications

• Currently pursuing a PhD degree in Computer Science, HCI, Design, or related technical field.
• Experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Experience in designing and implementing user interfaces (UIs).

Preferred qualifications

• Currently attending a degree program in the US and available to work full time for 12 weeks outside of university term.
• In penultimate academic year or returning to a degree program after completion of the internship.
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks and libraries (e.g., React, TypeScript, Angular, Vue, etc.).
• Experience developing high-fidelity interactive prototypes, multimodal AI interfaces, or novel interaction models.
• Experience coding in Python, TypeScript, Go, C++, Java, Swift, or Kotlin.
