Job summary

NC Department of Transportation in Craven County seeks a Ferry Master (S) to operate U.S. Coast Guard inspected vessels across NC coastal, sound, and river waterways.

You will supervise deck, engine room personnel, ensure safe operation, and enforce safety rules. Must hold a valid USCG Master license for Inspected Ferry Vessels with appropriate tonnage, Radar Observer, and Marine Radio Operator permits, plus TWIC.

Qualifications

• Valid USCG Master license for Inspected Ferry Vessels with appropriate tonnage.
• Radar Observer certificate and Marine Radio Operator permit required.
• TWIC card and valid USCG credentials at interview.

Responsibilities

• Operate U.S. Coast Guard inspected ferry vessels across NC waterways.
• Direct deck, engine room personnel and ensure safe passage.
• Enforce safety rules and assist with safety inspections.
• Oversee docking, loading, and passenger safety.
• Train and supervise lower-level crew members.
