Position Summary

Walmart Global Tech is looking to hire a Senior, Software Engineer (Backend Focused) for their Marketplace Engineering team in Sunnyvale, California. An ideal candidate must have expertise in Java, Kotlin, Distributed Systems, strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures, cloud application development, automation tools, CI/CD pipeline, and a proven understanding of microservices and REST APIs.

About Team:
Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

What you'll do:

• Provide deep technical expertise and thought leadership that helps accelerate adoption of the absolute best engineering practices.
• Lead and participate in medium to large-scale projects by reviewing project requirements, translating requirements into technical solutions, gathering requested information, writing, and developing code, and conducting unit testing.
• Develop highly scalable services to process millions of requests per day and solve complex software systems problems.
• Gaining exposure to various technologies used in Marketplace and E-commerce platforms.
• Designing and developing backend microservices and APIs for web applications using JVM ecosystem (Kotlin, Java) and other languages and frameworks (Python, Go).
• Collaborate with project teams and cross functional teams. Troubleshoot open issues and bug-fixes, ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs.
• Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information and engaging support teams to assist in the resolution of issues.
• Provide support to the business by responding to users’ questions, concerns, and issues.
• Driving projects of high visibility across the organization.
• Leading team in designing systems and apps.
• Leading team projects by reviewing project requirements and translating requirements into technical solutions.
• Leading the discovery phase of projects to come up with high level design by partnering with the product management, project management, and business and user experience teams.

What you'll bring:

• Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience with 5 + years of experience in architecting large scale systems.
• Expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Python).
• Strong background in algorithms and data structures.
• Proven understanding of microservices oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs.
• Experience with cloud application development.
• Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS industry with hands on experience with public or private cloud offerings.
• Experience using any of the automation toolset like Appium, Selenium, Jira, RestAssured, etc.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and best practices.
• Advanced knowledge of performance, scalability, and system architecture.
• Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies.
• Experience in large scale distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Experience and fluency with relational / non-relational databases.
• Strong inclination towards exploring and learning new technologies.
• Understanding of machine learning.
• Previous experience in the marketplace domain.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00-$234,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
