Join the Indirect Procurement Tech (IPT) team as a data scientist and be part of a dynamic group that develops and supports platforms and systems that facilitate indirect procurement for all Walmart facilities worldwide. As a team member, you'll use cutting-edge data science techniques to identify and solve complex business problems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement and scale your solutions. You'll work with large datasets, develop custom analytical models using machine learning and deep learning techniques, and fine-tune object detection/segmentation models from scratch. With a master's degree in a related field and at least two years of experience in analytics, you'll bring the skills and knowledge necessary to make a significant impact on Walmart's procurement processes.

Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and deploy custom analytical models using techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, and statistical inference
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis and perform trend and cluster analysis on large datasets
  • Identify and solve complex business problems using data-driven solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and scale analytical models
  • Write code to develop and test solutions using recommended programming languages and frameworks

What you'll bring:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 2 years of experience in analytics or related field
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C++
  • Experience with version control, containers, VMs, and openCV techniques
  • Strong understanding of data science techniques such as multi-dimensional regression, SVMs, KNN, PCA, and clustering techniques
  • Experience building and scaling CNNs, fine-tuning models like YOLO and R-CNN for image context, and developing custom object detection/segmentation models from scratch
  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch
  • Experience with data analysis using libraries like scipy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, seaborn, pandas
  • Ability to work with REST APIs, server-client architecture, and frameworks like Flask and FastAPI to handle large volumes of images

The annual salary range is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00, with additional performance bonuses and possibly stock options.

Minimum Qualifications:

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus 2 years of analytics experience. Option 2: Master’s degree in a relevant field. Option 3: 4 years of analytics experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in data science, machine learning, optimization models, and related advanced skills. Successful assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R are valued. Knowledge of creating accessible digital experiences and implementing WCAG 2.2 AA standards is preferred.
