At Houston Methodist, the Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist I position performs routine diagnostic and vascular ultrasound procedures, including common and special ultrasound exams of moderate complexity. The role provides direct assistance to physicians during all diagnostic and special ultrasound/vascular procedures. The Technologist I is committed to delivering exceptional patient care, adhering to established ultrasound exam standards and guidelines to ensure patient safety and excellent customer service. This position is part of the direct patient care team.

People Essential Functions

  • Uses peer-to-peer accountability to support department retention and employee engagement.
  • Effectively communicates with patients and colleagues to provide high-quality service during every encounter.
Service Essential Functions
  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including vascular exams, using high-frequency sound waves to capture images.
  • Assesses and responds to patient needs for procedure adjustments to optimize care, image quality, and patient experience, including positioning and preparation.
  • Assists physicians during procedures, maintaining sterile technique.
  • Provides clear explanations and instructions to patients and families using appropriate language and non-verbal communication.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
  • Follows safety standards, maintains sterile techniques, and ensures infection control compliance.
  • Reports near misses and errors promptly, contributing to safety and quality improvements.
  • Performs daily quality control on imaging equipment and reports malfunctions.
  • Uses critical thinking to address patient reactions and obtain assistance when needed.
Finance Essential Functions
  • Documents procedures accurately and enters charges promptly.
  • Manages resources efficiently and prioritizes tasks effectively.

Minimum Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved educational program for required credentials.
  • No prior work experience required.
  • Required Licenses and Certifications include ARDMS or ARRT credentials and BLS certification, with specified timelines for additional certifications.

  • Competent in performing assigned duties with ongoing assessment and performance evaluations.
  • Proficient in English communication, both verbal and written.
