Responsibilities

Operate ultrasound scanning equipment to produce diagnostic records of designated portions of the human anatomy for patients of all ages, including infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Requirements for Ultrasound Technologists

Initial Qualifications

  • Certification or eligibility for certification by:

American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS),

OR

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Sonography (ARRT) (S).

OR

Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) when working in Cardiac Departments only.

  • All sonographers must obtain certification within twelve months of eligibility or cross-training.
  • Certified in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Requirements for Sonographer or Mammography Technologist – Breast Ultrasound

    Initial Qualifications

    • ARDMS certification and current registration, or
    • ARRT post-primary certification and current registration in breast sonography, or
    • ARRT certification with current registration and MQSA qualification.

    AND

    5 CEUs specific to breast ultrasound are required.

    Certified in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or obtain certification within 90 days of employment.

    Continuing Experience and Education

    Technologists should regularly perform breast ultrasound exams and comply with continuing education (CE) requirements of their certifying organization, including credits pertinent to their clinical practice in an ACR-accredited setting.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Graduate from an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology.
    • Prior ultrasound experience.
    • Registered Vascular Technologist.
