Job summary

Black Cape is offering a Skillbridge Internship – Software Engineer in Arlington, VA. The program connects military training to civilian tech work. In‑office presence is 3–4 days per week, with the possibility of fluctuation.

The internship requires willingness to obtain TS/SCI CI Poly; Secret or higher considered. Educational paths include BS/Associate or related technical disciplines. Prior programming experience and familiarity with common web technologies are preferred.

Skillbridge Internship – Software Engineer (ALL LEVELS)

Location: Arlington, VA (Ballston area)

In‑Office Expectations: Internship will be in office 3–4 days per week, may fluctuate.

Security Clearance: Must be willing to obtain TS/SCI CI Poly; Secret or higher considered.

Skillbridge Internship Requirements

Black Cape is seeking technologists actively using software development skills and/or with a computer science background. The program bridges military training to civilian technical work. Candidates should have at least 3–6 months of technical experience (military or civilian).

Education and Experience

Preferred: Completed Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Information Systems, or a similar technical discipline. An Associate’s degree is also considered.

Candidates close to completing a BS or a coding bootcamp are also considered.

Required Technical Skills

• 2+ years of professional experience (most opportunities)
• Proficiency in at least one object‑oriented language (Java, Python, C#, or C++)
• Experience with at least one MVC framework (Spring, Django, Flask, Rails)
• Experience with at least one relational database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, sqlite3)
• Experience working with Linux distributions (Ubuntu, RedHat, CentOS)
• Working knowledge of web application fundamentals (HTTP, HTML, REST, CSS, JavaScript)

Preferred Technical Skills

• Proficiency in a scripting language (Python, Perl)
• Familiarity with web server configuration (NGINX, Apache)
• Familiarity with a JavaScript framework (Backbone, Angular, Ember, Vue.js)
• Knowledge of Bootstrap and Less
• Experience with NoSQL storage (ElasticSearch, Accumulo, MongoDB, HBase)
