Cal Poly’s Campus Health and Wellbeing is hiring an Emergency Hire - Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform moderate- to high-complexity testing on blood, urine, and other specimens, operate hematology, urinalysis, and POC glucose testing, and ensure accurate reporting.

Candidates must hold a California CLS license, bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, and two years of journey-level experience; CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent.
• Two years of journey-level Clinical Laboratory Scientist experience.
• Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
• CPR/AED certification for Healthcare Providers.

Responsibilities

• Perform moderate- to high-complexity laboratory testing on blood, urine, stool, and other body fluids using established procedures.
• Operate automated and manual testing systems for hematology, urinalysis, microscopy, infectious disease screening, pregnancy testing, and point-of-care glucose testing.
• Receive and identify patients, verify test orders, perform phlebotomy, and follow universal precautions and specimen-collection standards.
• Process, store, and prepare specimens for in-house testing or shipment to reference laboratories, applying proper acceptance and rejection criteria.
• Enter, review, approve, and report test results in the laboratory information system while maintaining accurate records and performing quality control.
• Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment according to manufacturer specifications and established procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory; prepare reagents and media and replenish supplies as needed.
