Job summary

SmartVet Veterinary Services in Normal, Illinois seeks an Urgent Care Associate Veterinarian to join a growing team. This role offers the chance to provide urgent and general care within a supportive, patient‑focused practice and to help shape an expanding urgent care service.

The ideal candidate holds a DVM/VMD, is licensed or eligible for licensure in Illinois, and welcomes a varied caseload with flexible scheduling options including weekends.

Qualifications

• DVM/VMD from AVMA-accredited school is required.
• Active state veterinary license or eligibility to obtain one.
• Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD registration.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Examine and treat companion animals to diagnose disease or injuries.
• Operate diagnostic equipment and interpret results.
• Advise owners on preventive care and treatment options.
• Perform surgery and prescribe medications as needed.
• Provide counseling on end-of-life care when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate medical records for patients.
• Ensure compliance with veterinary ethics and applicable laws.
