Job summary

Care for Kids is hiring a Pediatric Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our fast-paced clinic network in Texas. You will evaluate and treat acute pediatric illnesses, perform urgent care procedures, and coordinate care across regional locations.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of NP/PA experience, current Texas licensure, BLS, and PALS within 90 days of hire. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, and travel between clinics may be required.

Qualifications

• Current, valid Texas RN/APRN licensure.
• Active national certification as a PNP or FNP OR Texas PA license with NCCPA.
• Minimum 2 years of experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
• PALS certification required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute pediatric illnesses and injuries.
• Perform comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments in a fast-paced urgent care environment.
• Order and interpret diagnostic testing and imaging.
• Develop and implement treatment plans for acute conditions.
• Perform urgent care procedures (laceration repair, initial fracture management, splinting, nursemaid's elbow reductions).
• Identify higher-acuity conditions and determine referral or escalation.
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up.
• Document accurately in the EHR and coordinate care with the team.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Pediatric Urgent Care team. This role focuses on providing high-quality, same-day care to pediatric patients with acute illnesses and injuries in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Providers will evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of pediatric conditions, perform appropriate urgent care procedures, and determine when patients require additional evaluation, referral, or escalation of care. This position follows a regional coverage model, and Providers may work across multiple Care for Kids locations within their assigned region based on patient volume and staffing needs.

• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute pediatric illnesses and injuries.
• Perform comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments in a fast-paced urgent care environment.
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic testing, including laboratory studies, point-of-care testing, and imaging.
• Develop and implement treatment plans for acute and episodic conditions.
• Perform urgent care procedures, including laceration repair, initial fracture management, splinting, and reduction of nursemaid's elbow.
• Recognize higher-acuity conditions and determine when referral or escalation of care is appropriate.
• Provide patients and families with clear education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment, and follow-up care.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Collaborate with physicians, clinical leadership, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Maintain compliance with applicable clinical, HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA requirements.
• Travel between clinic locations within the assigned region as needed to support patient care and staffing needs.

Provider Qualifications:

Nurse Practitioners

• Current, valid, and unencumbered Texas RN/APRN licensure.
• Active national certification as a PNP or FNP from a certifying body recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Physician Assistants

• Current, valid Texas Physician Assistant license.
• Active NCCPA certification.

All Providers

• Minimum 2 years of experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Pediatric clinical experience strongly preferred.
• Pediatric urgent care, emergency medicine, or other fast-paced clinical experience preferred.
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
• PALS certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced pediatric urgent care environment.
• Excellent patient, family, and team communication skills.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA-waived testing requirements.
