Job summary

The New School's MS Design and Urban Ecologies program seeks a on-campus Student Assistant to support daily operations, events, and communications. Ideal for a Parsons or New School student with strong organizational, writing, and design skills and an interest in urban studies and social/environmental justice.

You will assist with planning lectures/workshops, manage Canvas and Drive, help maintain archives, and support outreach to community partners. This is a part-time on-campus position.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a student at The New School.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with ability to move ideas to implementation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across the organization.
  • Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and Figma is preferred.

Job description

The Design and Urban Ecologies Student Assistant supports the daily operations, communications, and academic programming of the MS Design and Urban Ecologies program. This role is ideal for a current Parsons or New School student with strong organizational, communication, and design skills, and an interest in urban studies, community engagement, and social and environmental justice.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide general administrative support to the Program Director and Program Administrator
  • Assist with event planning and coordination (e.g., guest lectures, workshops, symposiums)
  • Support communication efforts including email correspondence, listserv updates, and social media content
  • Help maintain program archives, including documentation of student projects and faculty research
  • Update and maintain program websites, online platforms (Canvas, Google Drive), and digital directories
  • Assist with outreach and engagement with external partners and community organizations
  • Support special projects related to curriculum, exhibitions, and publications as needed
  • Attend and take notes at key program meetings and events when requested
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled as a student at The New School
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills and the capacity to think strategically and to effectively move ideas forward into implementation
  • Ability to communicate effectively on multiple levels across the organization
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)
  • Familiarity with design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc.) preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in urbanism, design justice, community-based work, or sustainability
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
WORK MODE
  • On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on campus during regularly scheduled work hours because the work cannot be performed remotely without being infeasible or not in the best interest of the organization. #LI-DNI
  • Work hours are not fixed and may vary from week to week based on program needs.
  • Student Assistants will support events taking place throughout the semester and should have some flexibility in their availability to accommodate scheduled program events.
  • Hourly Rate: $18 per hour
