Job summary

The City of Lufkin is seeking an Assistant City Planner to support the City Planner in managing land use, zoning, development projects, and urban design within the city. You will conduct research, prepare plans and reports, coordinate with stakeholders, and provide planning expertise to support growth.

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in planning or related field, at least three years in public sector planning, and a valid Driver's License.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Public Administration, Architecture or a related field OR attain degree within three years of hire.
• Minimum of three years experience in public sector planning or similar governmental regulatory employment, preferably in a municipal government setting.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the activities of the City Planner and the Planning & Zoning division.
• Provides staff assistance to the City Planner.
• Assists in the formation of plans, policies, programs and regulations to guide future development.
• Assists in the preparation and maintenance of planning and development related materials including the Zoning Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan, subdivision regulations and others as needed.
• In the absence of the City Planner is responsible for interpreting and applying technical code regulations, analyzing technical and statistical information, preparing and presenting oral and written reports.
• Conduct research, analysis, and assessments of demographic trends, economic factors, and other relevant data to inform planning decisions and policies.
• Assist in the review of development proposals, site plans, subdivision plans, and rezoning requests to ensure compliance with zoning regulations, land use policies, and design standards.
• Assist in the preparation and presentation of reports, presentations, and recommendations to city boards and committees on planning issues, projects, and policies.
• Provide technical assistance, guidance, and expertise to city officials, departmental staff, developers, and the public on planning-related matters.
• Other duties as assigned.
