Job summary

City of Portland seeks two Urban Forestry Operations Supervisors to lead a 24/7 tree emergency response and a broad program of tree maintenance. You will recruit and supervise staff, ensure safety standards, and coordinate with City bureaus and the public on arboricultural projects.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising tree maintenance or arborist crews and prioritizing work.
• Knowledge of arboricultural practices and urban forest management.
• Experience implementing ANSI safety standards for tree care operations.
• Experience coordinating responses to tree emergencies or storm events.
• Experience overseeing specialized vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, the public, and partner agencies; promote equity.

Responsibilities

• Understand and apply urban forest management and arboricultural practices.
• Lead, oversee, and assess performance of Operations staff.
• Prioritize and complete varied tree maintenance requests and projects.
• Recruit, hire, schedule, and supervise staff including seasonal workers.
• Establish professional work culture with safety and effectiveness standards.
• Supervise daily ANSI safety standards and fleet operations.
• Oversee 24/7 citywide tree emergency response program.
• Communicate with the public and other public agencies.
