Job summary

The City of Austin is seeking a Forester to develop, monitor, and perform activities related to conservation and propagation of trees in the city. You will review plans, coordinate planting, inspect trees, and help enforce urban forestry policies.

The role requires a degree in forestry-related field with experience in urban forestry, plus the ability to travel between locations and work with diverse stakeholders. Competitive benefits and a strong retirement plan are offered.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Arboriculture or related field plus 2 years of urban forestry program experience; education may be substituted for up to 4 years.
• ISA TRAQ certification or ability to obtain within 6 months, ISA Certified Arborist or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver License required.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, specifications and contracts for compliance with codes related to trees.
• Monitor and coordinate tree-planting activities.
• Inspect and treat trees for diseases and pests.
• Draft and enforce arboricultural and urban forestry policies and ordinances.
• Coordinate tree programs (Oak Wilt, Austin Releaf).
• Answer citizen questions and investigate complaints.
