The City of Irving seeks an Urban Forester responsible for managing landscaping permits and inspections while preserving the urban forest. Ideal candidates hold a degree in a related field and have extensive arboriculture or landscape architecture experience, contributing to the city's commitment to a vibrant community.
This position is responsible for reviewing, planning, and issuing permits, as well as inspecting landscaping in the field to ensure compliance with the City of Irving’s Landscaping and Tree Preservation Ordinance. The role involves working with landscape architects, developers, and citizens to maximize the city’s urban forest, and maintaining the appearance of city lands.
Key duties include verifying that all landscaping and tree mitigation requirements are met, collaborating with property owners and design professionals to preserve existing trees, and keeping detailed records of site visits and reports. The position also involves coordinating urban forestry activities with other divisions and external agencies, monitoring and evaluating forestry programs, supervising crews, and providing community outreach and education.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in urban forestry, landscape architecture, or a related field; three years of professional experience in arboriculture or landscape architecture; Arborist certification from the International Society of Arboriculture; and a valid Texas driver’s license. Current registration as a Landscape Architect in Texas and Chemical Applicator licensure are beneficial but not required. A résumé must accompany the application.
PAY GRADE GG20 / FULL PAY RANGE $5,033 – $7,091 PER MONTH
