Job summary

Vertex is seeking a Mechanical Automation Co-op for a 6-month experiential training program, open to undergrad/graduate students in Engineering, Biotech or Biology. The role offers hands-on work in the PD team and exposure to late-stage process development for Type 1 Diabetes Cell Therapy.

The program runs January to June 2027, with a paid position at $30.00–$35.00 USD/hour and a rolling application review, deadline November 15, 2026.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program in Biotech, Biology, Engineering, or related field
• Must have completed at least 1 internship/co-op
• Some exposure to cell culture techniques
• Experience compiling and graphing data
• Legal authorization to work in the United States; Vertex does not sponsor internships/co-ops or entry level roles within this org
• Must be in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2027
• Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours/week from January–June 2027

Responsibilities

• Assist with experimental design and execution for the Type 1 Diabetes Cell Therapy program
• Cell culture in 2D environments (T-flasks)
• Record, compile, analyze, and present data to the broader team
• Assess stability and variability between lots of raw materials
• Learn about the 3D bioreactor portion of the process
