Job Summary: Responsible for managing the library/media center and providing a wide range of services to support the learning, research, and cultural enrichment needs of students, faculty, and administrative teams in a high school setting.

Library Management & Collection Development

  • Curate a balanced, diverse, and up-to-date collection of print and digital resources to support academic and recreational reading in multiple languages.
  • Ensure access to academic databases and promote their use within the school community.
  • Maintain an organized, welcoming, and inclusive library environment conducive to study and collaboration.
  • Process and catalog books and materials added to the collection.

Professional Collaboration & Development

  • Serve as a pedagogical partner to faculty by integrating library services into teaching and learning goals.
  • Stay current on trends in academic research, IB curriculum developments, and information literacy pedagogy.
  • Participate in professional learning communities and contribute to the broader life of the school.

Information Literacy & Research Instruction

  • Integrate research and information literacy instruction into subject-area curricula across grades 9–12.
  • Develop and promote instructional resources on academic honesty, source evaluation, and effective use of print and digital research tools.
  • Support classroom teachers with resource curation and instructional design for research-based assignments.

IB Extended Essay Research Support

  • Guide students through the research process for the EE, including topic refinement, source evaluation, citation management, and the formulation of research questions.
  • Design and deliver targeted workshops and research sessions for students at various stages of the EE timeline.
  • Provide one-on-one consultations for students conducting in-depth academic research across a range of disciplines.
  • Collaborate with EE supervisors to monitor student progress and ensure academic integrity throughout the research process.
  • Maintain and develop EE-specific research guides, digital tools, and curated databases.
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a secondary school library setting, preferably with IB programs.
  • Strong understanding of the IB Diploma Programme, especially the Extended Essay requirements.
  • Expertise in academic research tools, databases, and citation management platforms (e.g., Jstor, Infobase, NoodleTools, etc.)
  • Experience or a willingness to learn cataloging on the Mandarin Automated Library System.
  • Excellent communication, instructional, and organizational skills.
  • A student-centered, collaborative approach with a commitment to fostering lifelong learning.
