Latin School of Chicago seeks a creative and innovative Upper School French teacher who is passionate about languages and cultures and committed to connecting with and supporting students. Strong candidates will be well-versed in proficiency-based instruction and educational technology, and have demonstrated a commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and professionalism.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach 4 classes per semester
  • Serve as an advisor to 8-10 students
  • Attend weekly required meetings (division, department, all-school)
  • Develop and lead an experiential learning Project Week (second week of March)
  • Work closely with the department chair and Division Director to design lesson plans and curriculum that is responsive to student needs.
  • Write student narratives two times a year
  • Engage in professional development in line with department goals and philosophy.
  • Cultivate an inclusive and supportive climate for all students

Compensation:

  • Salary is $64,622 - $114,967 annually, based on education level and years of experience as outlined in our Faculty Scale.

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States (We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.)

Qualifications
  • Master's degree is preferred. Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 3+ years’ teaching experience, preferably at the high school level
  • Native or near native fluency in French
  • Ability to teach all levels of French, Novice to Advanced
  • Significant experience living or working in the French-speaking world is a big plus
  • Experience using or familiarity with the ACTFL Can-Do Statements along with the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines to structure and assess student learning
  • Demonstrate interest in or experience using standards-based grading
  • Create lessons and units drawing from authentic materials and grounded in Backward Design
  • Commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and professionalism
