Job description

Position Summary

Glenelg Country School in Howard County, Maryland, seeks an Upper School Choral Music teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. This position involves directing the Upper School Choir (Grades 9-12), teaching A.P. Music Theory, providing musical direction for the Upper School Musical, and organizing student performances. There may also be an opportunity to chair the K-12 Music Department. The Upper School Choir Teacher collaborates regularly with other members of the Music and Performing Arts (Theater) Departments in lower, middle, and upper schools to cultivate and nourish arts education across the entire institution. The successful candidate will bring a creative and dynamic approach to teaching and collaboration, will have experience working with high school or middle school students and musical theater and will possess strong piano performance skills. All full-time Upper School teachers contribute to clubs and enrichment activities and advise a group of ten or eleven students for their entire Upper School career. Education and Experience

A B.A. or B.S. is required and experience teaching high-school aged students is a significant advantage.

Essential Functions

  • Teach the Upper School Choir
  • Teach A.P. Music Theory
  • Organize and direct the December and April Upper School Choir Concerts
  • Provide musical direction and rehearsal supervision for the Upper School Musical
  • Advise a small group of Upper School students

Level of Interaction

  • Organizational: Creates action plans to meet divisional goals and objectives. Conducts periodic reviews of progress and measures against goals.
