Summary

King School is seeking a full-time Upper School Biology and Chemistry instructor who can teach both general and honors Biology, as well as general Chemistry courses. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the Next Generation Science Standards, employ inquiry-based learning methods, and create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment. Additionally, the instructor will mentor students in designing and conducting research projects, inspire their scientific curiosity, and guide them toward success in the science fair experience.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Creates a warm, well-structured, and student-centered classroom environment that supports intellectual risk-taking and growth through consistent routines and clear expectations for both students and oneself.
  • Establishes an inclusive learning atmosphere where every student feels seen, heard, valued, and respected.
  • Designs NGSS-inspired lesson plans that enhance scientific skills, techniques, and practices through diverse teaching modalities, with a strong emphasis on laboratory-based learning.
  • Develops curricula that foster problem-solving for real-world issues, encouraging students to cultivate a sense of stewardship, agency, and personal investment.
  • Contributes to departmental growth by collaborating with colleagues and advancing an inquiry-based, research-focused, student-centered curriculum.
  • Maintains all instructional, support, and communication responsibilities required of an active teacher.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology and/or Chemistry or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 1–3 years of high school teaching experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of adolescents' intellectual and social-emotional development.
  • Experience designing and delivering science units focused on skill development and content mastery.
  • Proficiency in student-centered teaching practices and facilitation.
  • Expertise in hands-on labs, experiential learning, research, science writing, and inquiry-based instruction.
  • Ability to nurture student discovery, independent thinking, and skill development.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency with platforms like Google Classroom.
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive practices and collaborative work.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a diverse community and align with King’s Mission and Virtues.
