Job summary

Explore Schools in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an Elementary Science Teacher for the Brooklyn campus. This in-person, exempt role serves K-5 students and begins August 25th. A $2,500 signing bonus is available for joining the team.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree, NYS teaching certification (preferred), and classroom experience. You will plan engaging science lessons, assess students, and collaborate with colleagues to foster equity and critical thinking.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required and NYS teaching certification preferred.
  • Classroom teaching experience required; 2 years preferred.
  • New York State teaching certification preferred; master's preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver lessons using culturally-responsive strategies to support all students in achieving high academic and social-emotional growth.
  • Intellectually prepare and internalize the shared curriculum; create unit and lesson plans.
  • Administer and grade assessments; analyze data and act on findings.
  • Keep accurate and organized records of student information and communicate with families.
  • Utilize Responsive Classroom practices to foster a positive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across content areas and grade levels.
  • Attend PLCs, grade meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Ensure student safety and support non-instructional supervision as needed.
  • Participate in field trips and contribute to identity work to dismantle white supremacy culture.

Starting August 25th, candidates who apply to the Upper Elementary Science Teacher role will be eligible for a $2500 signing bonus if they join our team!

You are an educator with experience teaching grades K-5. You are excited to work closely with our students.   • Ability to cultivate a positive classroom culture through building relationships with students and using classroom management strategies to promote safety and inclusion of all students
  • Classroom presence: you are clear and precise when sharing new content with students and can effectively lead students through inquiry-based class discussions
  • Elementary science content and pedagogical knowledge
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Adaptable to teach across multiple grades simultaneously
  • Classroom teaching experience required; 2 years preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • New York State Teaching Certification, preferred
  • Master's Degree in Education, preferred
WHAT YOU'LL DO

As an Elementary Science Teacher, you will be expected to manage the following daily:

  • Deliver lessons using a range of culturally-responsive pedagogical strategies to support all students in reaching high-levels of academic and social-emotional growth and achievement
  • Intellectually prepare and internalize our shared curriculum and create thoughtful and engaging unit and lesson plans
  • Administer and grade assessments and then analyze and act on data
  • Keep accurate and organized records of student information
  • Use Responsive Classroom approach to cultivate a positive classroom culture including, but not limited to, morning meeting, teacher language, interactive modeling, and other related practices
  • Foster an environment built on restorative practices by ensuring that students are building relationships with one another and repairing harm to the community
  • Collaborate with colleagues across content areas and grade levels
  • Attend and actively participate in all meetings including PLCs, grade level meetings, and PD sessions
  • Conduct parent‑teacher conferences as needed, as well as on‑going parent communication
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times
  • Assist with non‑instructional supervision of students, such as arrival/dismissal, hallway monitoring, substitute teaching, lunch and playground duty, or supervision of extracurricular activities
  • Attend field trips throughout the year
  • Actively engage in identity work and necessary conversations in order to dismantle white supremacy culture
