Job summary

KIPP NYC is seeking an Elementary School Science Teacher to join our NYC network. You will motivate students, develop both academic and character skills, and deliver a college-prep science education aligned with standards.

Position Overview

KIPP NYC is looking for teachers who combine the ability to motivate and educate, to develop academic as well as character skills, and to make a college preparatory education relevant both now and for the future. As an Elementary School Science Teacher you can expect to:

• Teach fewer subjects and deepen expertise
• Use a strong curriculum rather than designing everything from scratch
• Facilitate hands-on investigations
• Develop expertise in student discourse and inquiry
• Build specialized STEM instructional skills - NGSS
• Prepare students for later success in science, including the Grade 5 NYS Science assessment
• Receive science-specific professional development and instructional support

Duties and Responsibilities

General responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Planning and implementing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum aligned with Common Core standards.
• Commit to constant professional and personal growth through reflection, feedback, and collaboration.
• Constantly assess student progress, communicating results to families and colleagues, and adjusting instruction accordingly.
• Rigorous commitment to the success of each student.
• Model KIPP NYC’s character strengths in all interactions and communications with students, families, and staff.
• • Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor.
  • At least two years of teaching experience is strongly preferred
  • New York State teacher certification in the appropriate content area

  • Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students within our KIPP NYC communities

Compensation and Benefits

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,829 - $136,704. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role, NYS initial or professional certification, and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP NYC will evaluate a candidate’s years of experience, certification, and longevity at the point of hire to determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale.
