Position: Teacher Assistant Substitutes for 2024-25 Pre-K classrooms in Mahopac Central School District

Status: Per Diem, non-exempt

Pay: $15.50 - $17.00 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Possess motivation and creativity; demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work within a team, and maintain punctuality and attendance.
• Develop respectful relationships with children, families, and UPK team members to ensure a caring and welcoming environment.
• Meet the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of each child; plan developmentally appropriate activities.
• Assist the Lead Teacher with classroom appearance, décor, and learning environment.
• Help establish and maintain a safe, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
• Be flexible and a team player.
• Share housekeeping responsibilities.
• Lead in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
• Interact with children using developmentally appropriate practices.
• Manage classroom behavior through positive redirection, problem-solving, setting limits, and active listening.
• Support the Lead Teacher in developing and implementing lesson plans.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's degree in education or related field preferred.
• Childcare experience: 1 year preferred.
• Classroom management: 1 year preferred.
• Teaching experience: 1 year preferred.

Physical Demands:

• Lifting and carrying children.
• Close contact and supervision of children.
• Assist children with toileting and hand washing.
• Must have stamina and flexibility to participate in children’s activities (walking, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, pulling, running, reaching, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs.).
