Job summary

VTG Defense is seeking a skilled Upholsterer/Upholstery Restoration Specialist at Patuxent River, MD to support the Presidential Helicopters Support Program. Responsibilities include repairing aircraft furnishings, removing coverings, and restoring seats with fabric, padding, and trim.

The role requires 3+ years of upholstery experience, a Top Secret Yankee White clearance, U.S. citizenship, and ability to read publications, drawings and schematics. HS diploma or equivalent is required.

Qualifications

• High School Education or equivalent.
• Minimum of three (3) years actual experience performing the duties/responsibilities.
• Security Clearance: Top Secret Yankee White.
• Working knowledge of publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams and schematics; military applications preferred.
• All personnel must be U. S. citizens.
• Individuals released from Military Service with other than "Honorable Discharges" do not meet minimum qualifications.
• Contract cross-utilization with aircraft skilled positions; i.e. mechanics, in support billets; i.e. Tool Room, Warehouse, etc. is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and rebuilds upholstered aircraft furnishings using hand tools and knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods.
• Removes coverings, webbing and padding from seats, arms, backs and sides of work piece using a tack puller, chisel, and mallet.
• Removes defective springs by cutting cords or wires that hold them in place, replaces webbing and springs or reties springs as necessary.
• Measures and cuts new covering material, installs material on inside of arms, back, seat, and over outside back and arms.
• The Upholsterer tacks or sews ornamental trim, such as braid and buttons, to cover and frame, may operate sewing machine to seam cushions and join various sections of covering materials, may repair wooden frame of work piece, repair seats from various types of aircraft, repair a variety of items requiring special shaping, cushioning and covering including aircraft insulation and soundproofing panels, repair special devices and assemblies and other items such as carpets and other fabrics.

Do you have what it takes?

• Education: High School Education or equivalent.
• Experience: Minimum of three (3) years actual experience performing aforementioned duties/responsibilities.

• Working knowledge of publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams and schematics are mandatory, military applications preferred.
• Working knowledge of upholstery, sewing processes and products.
• All personnel must be U. S. citizens.
• Individuals released from Military Service with other than "Honorable Discharges" do not meet minimum qualifications.
• Contract Cross utilization of aircraft skilled positions; i.e. mechanics, in support billets; i.e. Tool Room, Warehouse, etc. is preferred allowing for efficiencies and flexibility

Pay Range: VTG's estimated starting pay rate is $31.27/hr which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
