Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a polysomnographic technologist to perform overnight sleep monitoring studies and analyze sleep records to support clinician diagnosis and patient care. Responsibilities

  • Performs overnight diagnostic sleep monitoring studies, including home sleep tests when applicable.
  • Analyzes results to aid clinician diagnosis and patient care.
  • Obtains artifact-free sleep tracings reflecting physiologic processes.
  • Documents sleep stages and quantifies physiologic parameters during data acquisition.
  • Troubleshoots testing process to ensure accurate and readable recordings.
  • Reviews relevant medical history and medications to guide studies performed by physicians.
  • Supports department policy development and quality assurance initiatives.

Job description

  • Performs prescribed overnight diagnostic sleep monitoring studies, which may include home sleep tests, to patients, with intermittent supervision from a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist as required by CMS guidelines.
  • Analyzes the results to aide clinicians with diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and care of patients.
  • Acts as a resource to the department.
  • Obtains artifact free sleep tracings that accurately reflect physiologic processes occurring during sleep of patients utilizing the latest technology.
  • Analyzes all types of sleep records of patients.
  • Identifies and documents sleep stages and quantify physiologic processes during the data acquisition.
  • Ensures an accurate and readable recording using deductive reasoning to troubleshoot minor problems and make adjustments as needed during the testing process.
  • Collects and/or reviews pertinent medical, historical, and medication information in order to perform the appropriate study prescribed by the physician.
  • Assists with the development of department policies, procedures and processes, facilitate testing and maintain quality to achieve optimal patient results.
  • Ensures quality assurance standards as outlined by departmental policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory agencies.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED plus knowledge typically obtained through three years of direct patient care experience OR must be enrolled in or have completed training in polysomnography in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option.
  • BLS Certification is required.
  • Requires Registry by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists within two years of hire or transfer.
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills.
