[REVSHARE] Disclaimer: This is a revenue share position with NO SALARY initially, although additional funding may be available if we secure it. Almost half of our team has AAA experience, so we are optimistic about our chances to receive funding. We plan to provide a salary once funding is secured. We are in talks with publishers and expect to finalize funding after completing our vertical slice in the upcoming months.

Your Role

As a Game Designer, you will play a key role in shaping the creative foundation of Shadows of the Lost. Your responsibilities include designing and documenting gameplay mechanics, collaborating on systems like combat, companion AI, and environmental storytelling, ensuring an engaging and seamless player experience.

You will help maintain and update the Game Design Document (GDD), reflecting the latest game vision and guiding the team. Working closely with designers, artists, and programmers, you will help refine the elements that bring our dark fantasy world to life.

About the game

Shadows of the Lost is a dark fantasy soulslike that explores new depths of the genre, blending momentum-based combat, a gripping story, and a unique companion system. Set in a fractured world corrupted by an otherworldly shadow, the ruins echo with the power of demigods who made deadly pacts with mortal rulers.

Traverse desolate landscapes inspired by Norse sagas and cursed Egyptian tombs. Unearth relics, forge bonds with companions, and confront the creeping influence of the Shadows of The Lost.

Responsibilities

  • Design engaging gameplay systems, including combat, progression, enemies, and environments.
  • Prototype and iterate mechanics using Unreal Engine tools.
  • Balance and refine gameplay to enhance experience and challenge.
  • Collaborate with artists and developers for seamless integration.
  • Document design concepts and strategies clearly.
  • Contribute creative ideas for immersion and narrative.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience with creating and maintaining Game Design Documents (GDDs).
  • Strong understanding of gameplay mechanics and engagement.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5 or similar tools.
  • Portfolio demonstrating game design expertise.
  • Proactive problem-solving and adaptability.
  • Passion for Soulslike and action RPG genres.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine and shipped games.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Level Design.
  • Knowledge of state manager systems for character actions.
  • Basic programming or Blueprint scripting skills.
  • Experience with high-fidelity or action RPG projects.
