Role Title: Economists / Econometricians / Research Officers

Role Nature: Voluntary

Location: Home-based

The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an international volunteers-led think tank supporting and advocating the application of blockchain technology in the global fight against climate change.

We are looking for passionate volunteers Economists / Econometricians / Research Officers with a desire to contribute their skills towards tackling environmental and climate change issues. Candidates should take a methodological approach, have experience in independent research and analysis, and enjoy engaging with stakeholders and developing strategic partnerships. The role involves managing research projects end-to-end, conducting economic research, supporting working groups, producing reports and briefing materials, and influencing climate policy globally. Experienced volunteers may be appointed as Principal or Senior Research Officers. Candidates with insurance sector experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing economic/econometric analyses to support research in sectors like renewable energy, carbon trading, resource management, and biodiversity, especially for developing countries;
  • Conducting research using primary and secondary data with quantitative and qualitative methods;
  • Presenting findings through reports, briefing documents, concept notes, and presentations;
  • Building strategic partnerships and engaging stakeholders;
  • Participating in meetings, conferences, and events to promote BCI.

Requirements

Education & Training

  • Undergraduate degree in (Environmental) Economics, Econometrics, or related field, or equivalent professional experience;
  • Postgraduate degree or research experience is desirable.

Relevant Experience

  • Ability to perform economic and econometric analysis, including feasibility studies;
  • Experience in target-driven roles;
  • Experience building relationships with stakeholders, especially in insurance;
  • Independent and team project work skills;
  • Experience designing and conducting independent/academic research under deadlines.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships, and work across boundaries;
  • Strong English writing skills;
  • Proficiency in economic/econometric analysis and relevant software;
  • Organizational and presentation skills;
  • Desirable: proficiency in other languages.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and software;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Knowledge of climate change, climate finance, blockchain, and AI;
  • Deep understanding of economic research methods.
