Job summary

Sira Consulting in Jacksonville, FL seeks a skilled Unix Administrator to install, configure, and maintain Linux/Unix server environments, ensuring availability, performance, security, and reliability for business-critical applications.

You will manage OS installations (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE, AIX, Solaris), perform patching and upgrades, monitor performance, implement backup and DR procedures, and automate tasks with shell scripting.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix administration.
• Hands-on experience with RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE, AIX, or Solaris.
• Proficient in shell scripting (Bash/KSH).
• Experience with server performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Proficient in backup tools and disaster recovery.
• Familiarity with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and NTP.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Knowledge of security hardening and compliance standards.
• Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM).
• Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Responsibilities

• Prepare system documentation, SOPs, and operational reports.
• Work closely with application, database, network, and cloud teams.

Preferred Skills

• Automation using Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform.
• Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with DevOps and CI/CD tools.
• Linux certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, or LPIC.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in Unix and Linux Administration.
• Relevant certifications are preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.
• Ability to work in a 24x7 support environment.
• Ability to handle critical incidents and escalations.
